The background of Frédérique Pain includes research in usability, cognitive sciences, physiology as well as industrial design. She received her master’s degree in industrial design from the ENSAM ParisTech French High Engineering School. She began her carrier with a PhD still pending on, in usability and design at the National Conservatoire of Arts ( CNAM) in the industrial field of aeronautics. She has been director of research in the Bell Laboratories (prior Alcatel Lucent, now Nokia) where she focused her research on leveraging the user experience to design and develop new technologies for communications and information management. She’s now research director at Strate and in charge of the post graduate diploma: the master Design and Innovation and the MBA management by design. Her lecturer and research activity are based on Experience Design, value Creation and emerging technologies fields.
Chercheur PhD Arts Appliqués, Strate
First trained as a designer, Estelle Berger obtained in 2014 a PhD in Applied Arts for research on the reflective practice of design. Supported by theory and an analysis of design practice in context, her research investigates the singularity of designers and the stances they adopt in companies and society at large. Her scope focuses on ethics, understood as a constant introspection and assessment of designers’ means, positions and ends in professional force fields. As a researcher and lecturer at Strate School of Design, she accompanies experience design and cross disciplinary innovation projects, putting an emphasis on the sensitive and imaginary dimensions. Based on action research, the collaborative projects and activities run within Strate research lab aim at developing a toolbox for professional practice and reflection-inaction. As a designer, Estelle Berger specializes in experience design, with a predilection for the promotion of handicrafts through design.
